wave energy potential for South Africa

I wasn't aware - until now - that a research project was set up in 1980 to research the potential of harnessing wave energy on South Africa's coast. It went quiet for a while, but the Stellenbosch Wave Energy Converter Project has since been resurrected. According to Professor Deon Retief, the marine engineer who started the project, there are a number of possible sources of marine energy, including salinity gradients, temperature gradients, tides, bio-conversion and ocean currents off the South African coast.
